What’s On The Box?! – Your Guide To What’s On TV

Taking a step away from the cinema once a week, What’s On The Box?! will bring you all of the latest and greatest news in the world of television.

Entertainment site Collider reports that Showtime’s new offering “Ray Donovan,”  premiered on June 29th to Showtime’s largest debut numbers ever, with 1.35 million viewers.  “Donovan” features the latest movie star to jump to the small screen, Liev Schreiber, as the titular character, who is a fixer for the rich and famous, but can’t seem to fix his own family’s problems.  Check out the premiere for free, in its entirety at the Showtime website!

“Ray Donovan” lead in, “Dexter” kicked off its final season with 2.5 million viewers.  Last season left Dexter and Deb in a rough situation and the final season looks to bring resolution to the lives of everyone involved with America’s favorite serial killer killer.

It looks like the dead eyed, empty-headed contestants of “Big Brother,” CBS’s long running reality television show, are starting to put the show back on the map.  Not one, but two contestants have been fired from their day jobs as a result of their behavior on the show according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Contestants GinaMarie Zimmerman and Aaryn Gries were dismissed from the jobs, that allowed them to leave so they could sit around in a house doing nothing for several weeks, for making racist and homophobic comments.  CBS is distancing itself from the contestants’ comments and maybe it should start doing the same with this show as well.

Although “Breaking Bad” will begin its sprint to the finish line on August 11, show creator Vince Gilligan states the world of Saul Goodman may live on in a spin-off series, in comments he made to TheWrap.  It is not confirmed, but Gilligan feels there is a good chance the show will get the green light.  When asked if the show will be a prequel or a sequel, Gilligan would not answer, as he did not want to give away Saul’s fate in the final episodes of “Breaking Bad.”  If it is a prequel, there is a possibility as well that everyone’s favorite fast food chicken restaurant owner/drug kingpin, Gustavo Fring, could make a return!

Speaking of “Breaking Bad,” Maxim reports that if you live in or around New Mexico, or happen to be in the area any time soon, check out The Marble Brewery’s special edition beer, The Heisenberg Dark or Walt’s White beers, commemorating the hit show’s final run, which films in the brewery’s neck of the woods.

For fans of TNT’s alien invasion drama “Falling Skies,” multiple outlets, including The Huffington Post, announced the show has been picked up for a 10-episode fourth season, set to air next summer.  Season three, currently running, stars Noah Wylie as a human resistance leader fighting the alien invaders.  The show is executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks Television.

And to cap of this week’s What’s In The Box?!  A lovely little girl and her brother perform their song for the judges on “America’s Got Talent”:

    • Yeah, I agree, it’s one of those things that could be great, or it could be a disaster. I’d be intrigued to see a half hour comedy, but think it would work better as an hour long dramedy.

    • I am interested to see it, but yeah it’s either gonna be great or terrible. They say they don’t know if it would be a half hour comedy or not, that would be interesting to see. It would probably work better as an hour long dramedy though.

      • I just hope it doesn’t become some run of the mill procedural. I’d like it to keep a story going and throw in the odd ball case left and right.

      • I envisioned it as his day to day activities with some of the seedier folks, I didn’t really even think about it being a law show. I guess that would make sense though.

    • Thanks! Last season of Dexter was meh, but this season is shaping up alright. I haven’t seen Falling Skies either, it looks like a pretty well put together show.
